Attorney Referrals
Colorado has very strict rules on referring attorneys and fee sharing or splitting. See Colorado Rules of Professional Conduct 1.5 (page 24) and Moye White's article on Attorney Fee Disputes.. I am not saying that it is impossible. Only that referring attorneys anticipating a fee sharing or splitting arrangement must understand that I must and will adhere to the Colorado ethics rules.
Now that the caveat has been given... I understand that your time, level of expertise, resources and being located in another jurisdication may dictate engaging other counsel for your client(s). I am delighted to discuss any referral to see if I can be of any help and whether any fee sharing will be appropriate.
Corporate law departments are also welcome to discuss referring cases. It is common practice for multi-state corporations to engage local counsel when a legal issue arises in that jurisdiction that requires representation by local counsel or for continuing representation.
